(dl-methionine)

Urinary Acidifier

Methio-Form (dl-methionine) is used to acidify of the urine of cats and dogs. DL-Methionine aids in the prevention and treatment of feline urological syndrome (FUS) when lowering the pH and buffering the urine is of value. It can also help prevent urinary tract infections and some bladder stones. Methio-Form is also given as an aid in controlling the odor from feline and canine urine residues.

Dosage and Administration:

Cats: The usual daily dose is 2.5-5.0 mEq/kg of body weight or 1/2-1 tablet per 1 to 1.5 kg (2.5 to 3 lbs.) of body weight. Average size adult cats normally should receive 1 1/2-3 tablets (10-20 mEq) daily.

Dogs: The usual daily dose is 2-4 mEq/kg of body weight.
Small breeds - 7 kg (15 lbs.) or under, 1/2-4 tablets.
Medium breeds - 7 to 15 kg (15 to 33 lbs.), 2-7 tablets.
Large breeds - 15 to 30 kg (33 to 66 lbs.), 4-13 tablets.

Daily doses vary with diet and the amount of acidification needed. After dosages have been determined, they may be used continuously. METHIO-FORM Chewable Tablets may be fed free choice, from the hand or maybe crumbled and mixed into the food.

In rare cases, animals may experience gastro-intestinal disturbance. In those cases, administer chewable tablets during or after feeding or in two to three divided doses.

Contraindications:
Do not administer to animals with severe liver, kidney or pancreatic disease, or those which are acidotic due to conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes mellitus or urinary obstruction.
